The Augustinian Sisters Servants of Jesus and Mary established
themselves in Gozo on 29th September 1946, first at Hamri
Street. Their Apostolate consisted in the education of
children, sewing and cutting out classes for girls and
also ran a music school. In addition they directed the
Sodality of Mary and that of “The Pages of the Blessed
Sacrament” , gave out Religious Instruction and
taught singing. For some years they also cared for the
orphan boys of St.Joseph’s Institute. Ist September
1971 saw the Sisters transferred to this Oratory until
their actual convent was completely constructed by 1978.
In the new convent “Teresa Spinelli”, the
Sisters serve the people by running an Infant class, teach
music and singing and impart Catechism lessons and in
addition direct various Religious Groups. The convent
is also open to accommodate religious and lay who wish
to spend days in retreat or spend their holidays in a
quiet environment.
